How to Decorating Your Daughter’s Bedroom
Once you have decided to decorate your daughter’s bedroom, sit down and
discuss all of your ideas with her BEFORE you begin. After all, it will be HER
room and she will be the one spending the most time in it. So, naturally you
will want her to be happy with the end result. You should also keep in mind
that your daughter is going to be growing up through the years, and her bedroom
should be one that has enough flexibility to weather those changes. Therefore,
when you begin this project, do not spend a great a deal of money on it, unless
she is already old enough that drastic change will not be needed again.
Just adding a fresh coat of paint in a bright color will work wonders
in decorating your daughter’s bedroom. Pink is the traditional color for little
girls and can contribute to an overall feeling of a fairy tale princess.
However, if your daughter happens to HATE the color pink, it is much better to
let her select the color paint that will be used in her room. Maybe she prefers
purple, blue or green. Whatever she likes, you can certainly work with it by
using other colors with it, either for contrast or matching effects. You may
even decide to use pieces of sponge to create different designs on the walls.
Windows
When it is time to begin the window treatments, choose the right
fabrics in order to keep the overall soft appearance. Flowing fabrics are
generally preferred by young girls over blinds or roman shades. Keep in mind
the texture of the bedding material when selecting the curtain fabric, as they
should be consistent with each other to attain a uniform appearance.
Help your daughter choose bedding with designs that will enhance the
style of her new bedroom. The color and the pattern of the bed sheets need to
match the complete design. Investing in a bedspread or comforter that is
reversible will save you a great deal of money in the long run. When one side
has a design and the other side is solid, your daughter can change it out as
the mood strikes without you having to buy another one. Adding lace to the
edges of the pillowcases can offer a personalized touch to the overall effect.
Choosing Accessories
Do not spend a lot of money on accessories for your daughter’s room.
The reason for this is that her tastes will change over time, and as that
happens, she will want new accessories that reflects her NEW tastes. She may
love to hang posters and removable wall stickers to decorate. For a wall
hanging, you can simply frame a decorative piece of material and hang it up.
Beads can be used to embellish things like a storage box, or even hanging them
from the molding of the room. Again, let
her play a part in this.
Light it all Up
Lighting is quite important to the decorating of your daughter’s room.
Until you have the right lighting, nothing is going to look as it should. You
can use normal light bulbs, but also make arrangements that include colorful
bulbs. Small white lights can be added across the wall to give the feeling of
stars. This is something that never goes out of style.
The end result should be something that you can afford and live with,
and that your daughter adores.
