How to Designing a Boy’s Bedroom
Designing a boy’s bedroom can be a rather tricky process. This is not
the time to experiment with girl colors. There are, however, ways around this
to give the boy in your life the room of his dreams. It isn’t all that difficult
as long as you keep a few things in mind.
The 2 most important aspects are space and light. Boys need room to
play so the décor shouldn’t take up a lot of space. Good lighting will make the
room seem larger by giving the illusion of space. It also needs to have enough
natural light as well as lots of light colored surfaces that reflect the light.
Try concealed lighting for the perfect atmosphere.
Color plays a very important role in creating a boy’s bedroom. This can
be a challenging part of the entire process so it’s typically easier to go with
your son’s favorite color. Play around with different shades and find the one
that adds warmth to the room. Stay away from dark and depressing colors. Some
good colors are green, blue, or yellow. Wallpaper is another good option. As
wallpaper is a bit more permanent, you may want to choose a design that will
grow with your son.
Bedroom furniture is another aspect of designing a boy’s bedroom but it
can also be the simplest part. Most boys want bunk beds. This works because
they don’t take up a lot of space and offer multi functions. He’s ready for
sleepovers as well as having room for a desk and chair.
Your job is easier if your son has a favorite theme. This is a great
way to get your son involved in making this HIS room. There are many different
themes that boys love. These include:
·
Airplanes: Hang models of
airplanes from his ceiling. Paint the room a sky blue and let him pick out a
mural to fit in with everything else.
·
Sailor or Pirate: The walls can be
painted a blue or sea green, with waves added for affect for this fun theme. If
you want, you can choose wallpaper for this. Hang a lifebuoy and black flags
with skulls on them for affect.
·
Military: If the armed forces are
something that your boy is fascinated with, try a military theme. You can use
wallpaper or paint the room in either desert or camouflage colors. Add
miniatures of fighter jets, action figures, tanks, and submarines.
·
Jungle or Safari: Using green,
blue, tan or ivory, paint the walls so that they resemble a jungle. Hang
butterflies, binoculars, and safari hats. Something else fun to add are play
bugs hung from the ceiling.
·
Outer Space: Get packages of glow in the dark stars to put
on the walls and ceilings. Add a spaceship bed and play with the lighting a
bit. Hang planets from the ceiling.
Be sure to pick out matching bedding for whatever your theme is and
you’re all ready to go.
